When you first begin to get website traffic to your site, you need to go for the longer tailed keywords first. Try and get a good ranking for them first. It’s all used to build up momentum to that main keyword you are targeting. One of the first areas to market your new website is the directories.
When I learn SEO, I found out that I take a good look at your competition. What are they doing? What kind of websites are they linking from? What is the page rank of those pages? Find out everything you can about them and do exactly the same thing. For the higher ranking PR sites, you might find yourself buying links. Many people swap services and links. But you’re never going to find out if you don’t ask.
Many times you see portals that your competition is using to get a higher ranking. This all helps and you can use it as a guide to help get you to where you want to go, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll outrank your competition. It usually comes down to that you’ll need X amount of links to outrank the competition.
I market my website with content. This involves going out and submitting my articles to the different directories. But I don’t use them all, just the top ones. You want your content to be really good so that other people will put them on their websites or put into their newsletters.
Have you ever thought about putting up a blog on your website? Motivate others to leave comments. Get them excited about signing up for a newsletter. Give freebies out and to prompt more reading.
The search engines take a look at niches in a different way I think. If I’m selling fishing gear and I go a website that shows people the best places to fish, I could get an easy link from that website going back to mine. I’ll ask them if I can write an article for their site.
In addition to submitting my content to article directories, I’ll go out and find different businesses that need my content and approach them with the idea of using it for free. I can usually get a link back going to my website for a good article. It’s really not that hard to do. Visitors love fresh content on websites because it keeps them coming back for more.
If my content is good, I can even get paid for the article. Many times a website will want content that is written just for them. With a link going back to your website this could be a good thing. Now you know my secret to get website traffic to my site.
